Matthew Antonio Perri
From his triumphant debut at Carnegie Hall with the concert and live recording of Austen's Pride to leading Broadway hits like Bandstand and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Matt Perri has become a celebrated name in music.
With an impressive array of Broadway credits—including Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, The Drowsy Chaperone and Promises, Promises—Matt has conducted some of the most iconic productions in theater history.
A Broadway Veteran
Matt's expertise extends to television, where he has contributed to high-profile projects such as NBC's The Sound of Music Live and Peter Pan Live, as well as performances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with David Letterman. He has made multiple appearances on ABC's The View, where he was also a staff songwriter. His passion for opera is showcased in his role as Music Director and Conductor for the 2024 Seattle Opera Creation Lab Series.
In concert, Matt has collaborated with stars like Bette Midler, Kristin Chenoweth, Jessica Vosk, Kecia Lewis and Mario Cantone, earning him a reputation as a dynamic and versatile music director.
Education and Training of Matthew Antonio Perri
Matthew Antonio Perri has a well-rounded and diverse educational background in music, which is integral to his development as a conductor and educator. He earned a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) in Jazz Piano and Composition from New York University (NYU), where he studied under esteemed musicians such as Jim McNeely, Mike Holober, and Don Friedman. His studies in composition and orchestration were further deepened by working with Justin Dello Joio, a distinguished composer noted for his contributions to contemporary classical music.
Matthew's journey in conducting was significantly shaped by his mentor, Maestro Gary S. Fagin, the Music Director of the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra. Under Maestro Fagin's guidance, Matthew honed his skills, learning valuable lessons from the legacy of Otto-Werner Mueller, a renowned German conductor and teacher who had a profound influence on modern orchestral conducting.
Beyond his formal education, Matthew spent several years refining his vocal skills, training with Dr. Bruce Kolb in New York City to elevate his already proficient singing abilities to a higher level. This comprehensive training across multiple disciplines—jazz, classical composition, conducting, and vocal performance—equips Matthew with a rich, multifaceted perspective on music, allowing him to excel as a conductor and an inspiring mentor.
